Vimal Chawda is the chairman and managing director of VNR. Having helped his father nurture the company and turn a modest 10-acre plot into a 2000-acre highly profitable farm, Vimal now runs VNR with effortless ease.
The young CMD has played a major role in modernizing the company not only in terms of acquaintance with various seeds, harvesting and irrigation technologies but also in expanding the sales and marketing network.
Vimal for the first time started F1 hybrid papaya and F1 hybrid capsicum cultivation at a large scale level in Chhattisgarh. The CMD is also responsible for conducting comparative trials of newly-developed hybrids with commercial hybrids every year in order to find the best suitable varieties for Chhattisgarh region. He has also been working on developing F1 hybrid rice to suit the local climate.
Vimal graduated from the Gobind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pant Nagar, Uttaranchal, with distinction. He was the recipient of the silver medal for second best graduating student of 1992-93.
And that was just the beginning of the awards and honours that the budding agriculturist was to bag. In 1999, he won the Young Entrepreneur award at Rajnandgaon. Barely a couple of years later, he was named among the top 10 outstanding young Indians by the Indian Junior Chamber at Indore. The very next year, Vimal bagged the ASPEE L.M. Patel Farmer of the Year award from the ASPEE Agriculture Research and Development Foundation, Mumbai, as well as the N.G. Ranga Farmer Award for Diversified Agriculture handed over to him by then agriculture minister Rajnath Singh.
Vimal is also actively involved in educating farmers about the latest developments and best practices in agriculture through group meetings that he organizes for them at the VNR farm and also through lectures and talks on radio and television.
